According to E.B. Tylor , "Religion is belief i supernatural beings."

This defintion is precise and simple. But it poses a difficult question" After all what is supernatural? The answer to this question is related to knowledge. It is the knowledge of the people which helps define religion. Knolwedge can ne defined so as to include 'facts' which people are reasonably certain of and act upon, and which also have a social origin.

Durkhein who is considered to be the father of sociology of religion. His arguments is that what is considered supernatural by the society. It is from this perspective that Durkheim consideres society as the god; what is sacred is religion; what is profane is not religion.
